The Club Committee
Chairman – Hugh Gotch
Hugh is from Wickford and has been in post since April 2025. He has been a club member for 4 years since retiring from a career in the medical equipment industry. He is a long-time modeller whose main interests are traditional analogue controlled 00 gauge steam outline and scratch building/kit bashing structures and rolling stock. Hailing from the West of England he is a fan of all things related to the Great Western Railway.
Deputy Chairman – Paul Bentnall
Paul is from Chelmsford and is an Essex boy born and bred. He has been a club member for many years joining in 1984 and retired a few years ago from the London Underground. He mainly models narrow gauge in various scales but is happy to help out on most gauges and scales.
Treasurer – Stephen Holland
Stephen lives in Danbury and joined the Club in 2024 being appointed Treasurer a year later. Having returned to the hobby during the Covid period, he now models in TT120, a scale he is very enthusiastic about. As his school years were spent in Nottinghamshire in the 50s and 60s between Derby and Doncaster, he is drawn to all things steam of that era and earlier.
Secretary – Andrew Smith
Andrew from Chelmsford has been the Club Secretary since 2014 after a few years as a Committee Member. A keen motorcyclist and model maker who specialises in small to medium size layouts. These are mainly narrow gauge of various scales and anything from N gauge American outline to SM32 garden railway equipment. He has been known to run SM32 radio control trains on a Vicar's lawn for their garden party . Andrew also dabbles in electronic controls, scratch building, kit bashing and making track work if a particular layout calls for it. He not only exhibits model railways but also attends classic bike shows with his motorcycles.
Membership Secretary – Norman Young
Norman resides in Bicknacre just south of Chelmsford. Originally from Chingford when it was part of Essex he has been a member of the club for 13 years and Membership Secretary for the last 2. He is well travelled having retired from the plant manufacturing side of the Oil & Gas industry. He models in the world of O Gauge LNER Steam and BR Diesel. He is a member of MERG (Model Electron Railway Group) and is fully conversant with analogue and digital control systems.
